About Student Plus

Student Plus Project is an environmental concern business endorsed by Beepurple and the University of Brighton. It aims to develop a homeware sharing economy based on reducing, reusing and recycling: core principles of sustainable living.

Our focus is on student living which is characteristically flexible, short term and economical. The typical high street or online consumer model does not suit this style of living, as students who opt to purchase new products only realise a fraction of their value before discarding them. Second hand options are available.  However, they do not represent similar levels of convenience and availability. By collecting items from departing students and making them available to new students via reuse and up-cycling streams, this project aims to fulfil this need and generate an environmentally conscious form of consumer behavior.

The project is run by Mei and Moosun, MA graduates of Sustainable Design and Fine Art respectively at the University of Brighton. We aim to use our skills and interests to grow a service which provides both cost-effective means for student to furnish their homes and a creative design element in its up-cycling arm. This service will be promoted with the core environmental ethos of reduction in consumption of household items. We believe that the service could also directly reduce the prevalence of fly-tipping in the city centre.

Browse our website to see the range of products we have upcycled and have available to rent or buy.  We can also repair or upcycle household items on demand for landlords and homeowners.

We are incredibly excited and passionate about the project which we feel has a real potential to flourish among a cost and environmentally conscious student population. We hope to gain more interest and feedback from local communities in Brighton in order to better develop the project.
